FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flojaune Cofer Joins Public Health Advocates as Research and State Policy Manager

DAVIS, CA, April 12, 2017… With her extensive experience addressing and protecting children’s health, epidemiologist Dr. Flojaune Cofer joins Public Health Advocates (PHA) as research and state policy manager.

Previously with the California Department of Public Health’s division of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, Dr. Cofer was the statewide lead for women’s and girl’s preventive health, analyzing data, developing policy recommendations and creating leadership trainings. In her new capacity, she will tap into those skills to lead PHA’s policy-centered research efforts and state policy work to make health a reality for more people.

“We are excited to have Flo on our team,” says Dr. Harold Goldstein, PHA’s executive director. “With her strong leadership, policy and research experience in public health, she is poised to make a significant contribution to our work here at Public Health Advocates and help advance our efforts to create healthier communities for all.”

Dr. Cofer holds a doctorate in epidemiological science/women’s health and a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan. She has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and served as the principal investigator on two national health grants. Her leadership and commitment to serving the community are exemplified by her service on more than half-a-dozen health and community service boards. Last year, Dr. Cofer was awarded the Sacramento Cultural Hub’s Exceptional Women of Color Award and the Sacramento Business Journal named her one  of their “40 under 40” recipients.

Public Health Advocates is an independent nonpartisan, nonprofit organization at the forefront of solving the obesity and diabetes epidemics by advocating for groundbreaking policies that build a healthier California. PHA played a leading role in removing soda and junk food from public schools, passing California’s landmark restaurant menu labeling law and advocating for a  statewide soda warning label law.
